여호와를 경외함이 곧 지혜의 근본이라. (시 111:10)
이것이 창조자, 우리 존재를 만드신 분, 온 우주의 보존자이시며 주이신 분께 대하여 피조물이 취해야할 유일한 합당한 태도입니다. 그러므로 그분께서 말씀하실 때에 우리의 귀는 그분의 목소리를 경청하여야하며, 온 힘을 다하여 그분께서 명령하시는 것을 빈틈없이 행해야 합니다. 우리의 안전과 행복과 사랑 및 감사를 촉구하는 고상한 성품과 신속하고 현명하게 지시를 따르고 지식과 지혜가 발전하는 등의 모든 것들은 무엇보다도 주께 대한 우리의 최상의 경외심에 달려 있습니다. 그러므로 주께서는 우리에게 그분의 이름에 합당하게 상응하고 효성스런 경외심을 키우고 발전시키려고 하십니다.
