비록 무화과나무가 무성치 못하며, 포도나무에 열매가 없으며, 외양간에 소가 없을지라도, 나는 여호와를 인하여 즐거워하며 나의 구원의 하나님을 인하여 기뻐하리로다. (하박국 3:17,18)
하느님께서 이 세상에 악을 허용하시므로, 이세상은 그 악행의 자연적 보응으로 쓰라린 경험을 함으로써 교훈을 얻게 됨을 우리는 봅니다. 그러나 동시에 성도들에게도 악이 작용하는 것을 봅니다--그럼으로써 성도들을 시험하고, 단련하고, 강화시켜, 하느님께서 충실한 자들을 위해 예비하신 훌륭한 것들을 상속하도록 준비시키고, 이기는 자로서, 자격을 갖추게 하시는 것입니다.
